Day 4
This morning we were all up at 6:30 as we were catching the 7:27 train from Liestal to Zürich airport. We had 1 change over on the journey but arrived at the airport 2hrs ahead of our flight. The train comes in under the airport so it was very easy!
Our flight was an hour from Zürich to Rome. Once we touched down and got our bag, we found our driver eventually… and headed into the centre of Rome to our accommodation. We are on the 4th floor of a building right in the centre of Rome. To get to our floor, we take a very old lift. The room looks out over the city and is 1min from the Propylaeum of Liberty and only 5mins to the Pantheon and 10mins to the Fountain of Trevi and Colosseum.
We dropped our bags to our room and then headed out for lunch. Of course we had pizza for lunch! It was good but to be honest, nothing to rave about…
After lunch, we headed to the Propylaeum of Liberty which was built in 1900. We were able to see the Vatican and Colosseum from the top! We spent an hour wandering the museum and climbing to the top of the Propylaeum. We then headed back for a gelato and rest. At 5:30 we headed back out to find a dinner spot with the goal to eat early and then wander.
After dinner, we headed to the Fountain of Trevi. On the way we went into the Chiesa di Sant'Ignazio di Loyola. Mainly because we noticed lots of people going in and out! It was a church which incredible art on the roof. From here we past the Pantheon and then made it to the fountain. It was ridiculously busy but we were able to make it to the front for a quick photo!
We then wandered through the streets back to our hotel. There seems to be thousands of American tourists around and the driving here is nearly on par with India! The drive from the airport to our hotel was stressful. It was better not to look.
Tomorrow we have tickets to inside the pantheon aswell as a tour around the colosseum.
