Day 8

 Today was our boat day! We had to meet our driver at 7:05 in the town square. We picked up the other 10 people and headed to the dock. As soon as we were there, we jumped onto our boat and headed out. First we headed toward the island of Capri to check out the Blue Grotto. Unfortunately due to the high tide and rough sea, it was closed today. So instead our captain and helper suggested we swim under the green grotto instead. They did say “when we say jump, jump and quickly swim under as this is not legal”. So we are readied and as soon as the boat was close to the entrance, we jumped in and swum under the arch into the grotto. The green grotto is not nearly as bright but it was still very cool and there was plenty of fish to see with our snorkel masks. We then had to wait for the boat to get around to the other side and quickly climb aboard. We could only do this as it was still early, so there was very little other boats around. 

We then headed to the island of Capri. We docked there around 9am and had until 1pm to see the island. 6 of us shared a taxi straight to the base of the tallest mountain of the island so we could get the chair lift to the top to see the view. Our boat suggested we do this first before the island gets busy. The chair lift was 1 person per chair. It was very cool to see the view but also alittle scary. On the way up, I spotted some wild goats on the cliffs. At the top we all had photos and then decided to have a coffee and cake. Michelle who is from Christchurch NZ had the tiramisu, I had the lemon cake and a Scottish couple had cheese cake. We relaxed at the top until 11 at which point it started to get busy. So we took the chair lift back down and had a quick wander of the shops.

It was then back to the taxi line to get another 6 seater open top taxi. The road on the island is very skinny, it doesn’t look like 2 cars would fit but they do by the tiniest millimeter! Once we made it back to the dock, we waited for the other 6 to arrive back and got back on our boat. We then shifted out but still in the bay and had a swim for an hour. The water was so clear, there was fish all around us and it was so lovely given today is very hot. We then headed to the famous Capri arch for photos and then around the island. Then it was back towards Sorrento. We stopped along the way at a fresh water mountain water fall and had limoncello. We made it back to the dock at 3 and were taxied back to our drop off areas. It was a beautiful day, the water was magnificent and the views were incredible. On the boat we had a lady from Switzerland, a Italian couple, a Scottish couple, a kiwi, a couple from South Korea and a couple from Sweden (who we all named the couple on the wrong tour - because right at the start as we were leaving the marina, our captain started with the spiel- we head to Capri, and the Swede yells “CAPRI?! I thought we were going to the Amalfi” turns out he had booked the wrong tour). 

We then headed back to our hotel and showered as the water here is next level salty. We then wandered the shops again and had lemon sorbet in a lemon. Then we relaxed until dinner. Dinner tonight was delicious and after we strolled down to the water front and then back to our hotel. 

Tomorrow we leave for Barcelona. We really love it in Sorrento. The Amalfi coast is incredible. We will definitely be coming back! Apparently Jennifer Lopax, Jeff Bezos and many other famous people have their yacht parked up here often.

Day 11

 This morning we caught a taxi to Park de Güell. Our tour began at 10. We wandered the gardens and viewed all the beautiful art/sculptures and houses. Gaudí built one house as a show house when he first began the gardens with the goal to create a neighbourhood that was within nature. However, because at the time Barcelona city was 20mins away, no one bought the houses/plans. He then left the gardens to the city of Barcelona. Prior to his death, he had built many areas for the “town” including a market place, meeting areas and the house. Gaudí designed his artworks/infrastructure to blend into nature so most fences, pillars and walls look like trees or caves. He signed the meeting area so that water would drain through the sand and funnel into pillars to be collected for drinking water.  The city now reaches the park and surrounds it but the park remains the same.  After the tour we had breakfast and then jumped onto the bus. Day 1

 We have finally arrived in Switzerland after a very long night/day. The first 14hr leg was smooth, landing slightly early in Dubai. Dubai was huge! The airport had buses and trains through it between terminals. We had 2hrs from landing to taking off again. And the bus from terminal A to C was 40mins. We also had to go through 3 security checks even though we were in the same airport. Once off the bus we only waited 10mins before boarding the final leg. Thankfully we had paid for extra legroom. So we were right in the first row. However, being 8am local time meant that we were due to leave at the busiest time for the airport. This meant we had to wait until we could use the runway which in the end was nearly 2hrs later… you’d think they would just book the departure to be 2hrs later if they know 8am is busy. Day 15

 This morning we slept in, not getting up until 8:30. Our room is right on the Main Street but has no sound proofing and being a Friday night here, it was very loud most of the night until 6am…  We then packed up and met Corinna to drop our bags in a luggage storage. We then met Belle at the food market and all had an early lunch. Barnabys version was salami platter, I had chicken sliders, Corinna had a burger and belle waited until later to eat as she had a migraine. We then wandered down to the cathedral and walked through it. We then headed to the royal gardens for a wander. We ended up sitting in the gardens for an hour to relax.  We then headed back into the town for an afternoon snack. After that we strolled the shops and grabbed our luggage back out. Corinna, Barnaby and I then grabbed a taxi to the airport and said our goodbyes to Belle.  It was a very low key day but much needed.
